Frequently Asked Questions:

 Is a Doctors Referral required?
Physiotherapists are primary care practitioners and as a result, no referral from your family doctor is required. However, some extended medical plans  may request a doctor's referral.

My doctor prescribed Physiotherapy; what can I expect?
After a thorough assessment, a Physiotherapist may use a number of different modalities such as heat, ice, interferential current, ultrasound waves, l l  laser and friction massage to help control inflammation and promote soft tissue healing. To help you fully recover from the injury, the therapist will  guide you through a series of stretches and exercises to help you re-gain function. Through follow-up visits and by taking objective measurements,  the therapist will monitor your progress and modify or increase your exercises as needed, while correcting improper posture and  implementing correct body mechanics in an effort to prevent future or repeat injuries.

Physiotherapists are body specialists; highly skilled individuals, trained to assess and treat various musculoskeletal and neurological conditions in people  of all ages. Physiotherapists can help you gain and/or regain strength, range of motion and function. They can also help to correct posture, balance  and movement, to prevent future injury or chronic pain. The goal of Physiotherapy is always to return you to normal function so that you are able  to go about your activities of daily living.

I have insurance through my work/spouse; Am I covered for physio?
Planet Ice Physiotherapy Clinic does not bill insurance companies directly. If you are coming in for treatment unrelated to a work injury  (WorkSafeBC), or motor vehicle accident (ICBC), you are required to pay the 'Private Fees' at each visit. Upon payment, you will be issued a receipt  or statement which you can then submit to your private insurance for reimbursement.

Do I need  a doctor's referral to book an appointment?
No, you do not need a doctor's referral unless your visit is the result of a work-related injury (WorkSafeBC) or a motor vehicle accident (ICBC). A  doctor's note is NOT required for ICBC unless the MVA was more than 2 months ago.

*Note: Some private insurance plans do require a doctor's referral in order to cover treatment.

How much does my insurance cover?
Each policy is different. To inquire about the amount of coverage you have, we recommend that you contact your insurance company and  ask about coverage for physiotherapy.

My insurance company mailed my receipts back with a note for more information, how do I fix this problem?
Some insurance companies require that "more information" be shown on your receipts than others. To ensure prompt reimbursement, we suggest  having a statement prepared for you. A statement delineates all of your treatment dates and payments, the name and registration number of the  therapist, and the clinic's contact information. If you would like a statement, simply ask the front desk staff at your next visit. You can also contact  the clinic if you would like to drop by and pick up a copy, or if you would like a copy of your statement mailed or faxed to you.

Please Note: Patients are responsible for keeping track of when statements were issued, and what treatments have been  reimbursed by their insurers.

How do I know if I qualify for the (Low Income) MSP rate?
People that qualify for the MSP rate are those with "100% Premium Assistance". These people do not make payments to their Care Cards. Your level  of MSP Coverage will be based on the income claimed on your last year's income tax return. If you are still unsure as to your level of coverage,  contact us with your Care Card number and our administrators will be happy to let you know
